Training for HIV trainers

Who is the course for?

This course enables staff to develop skills and knowledge appropriate to training others around HIV, in order to keep their own organisation self sufficient in HIV training. The course is designed for anyone whose work involves any form of HIV training. This might involve training of other workers in their organisation, or it might be training with individuals/groups in the community.

Aim:

To develop skills and knowledge appropriate to training others around HIV.

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will:

understand the difference between HIV and AIDS
be aware of the main routes of transmission for HIV
know what an HIV antibody test is and the implications of testing
have examined HIV related professional issues including confidentiality through case studies
have considered some of their own values, attitudes and beliefs in relation to HIV

Course Duration:

This is a one day course

About the course:

The course will be informal and participatory in nature. It will involve exercises and group work in pairs and small groups as well as in the whole group. Group members will be asked to take part in discussions around the issues raised by exercises. The course will draw upon the experiences of the participants and will involve case study.
