HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C - Protecting yourself at work

Who is the course for?

This course is for any member of staff who would like to learn more about the HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viruses so they can ensure that they are not putting themselves (or their clients) at risk of infection whilst at work. The course will explain how these viruses are transmitted and the necessary precautions to take in order to minimise risk. It is particularly useful for ‘front line’ staff who work with the public or for those who work outside the office e.g. visiting people in their homes, cleaning communal areas.

Aim:

To increase staff confidence in relation to HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will:

understand what HIV is
have learned how HIV is and is not transmitted
be aware of the viruses which cause hepatitis, how they are and are not transmitted
know what Hepatitis B vaccination involves
have identified work situations where they could be at risk from HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C
know how to minimise the risk of infection in potentially dangerous work situations

Course Duration:

This is a one day course

About the course:

The course will be informal and interactive. It will involve exercises and group work in pairs and small groups as well as in the whole group. Group members will be asked to take part in discussions around the issues raised by exercises. The course will draw upon the experiences of the participants and will involve case study.
