To provide staff with the understanding and skills necessary to diffuse or cope with aggressive situations at work.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will:
- have explored what makes people feel angry, and why
- have examined the effects of chronic anger on people’s bodies, emotions, behaviour and relationships
- have learned some strategies for controlling their own anger (which may occur in response to initial aggression)
- be able to recognise signs of anger or potential anger in other people
- have identified ways to prevent and defuse potentially ‘angry’ situations
- take away skills for managing other people’s anger once it occurs
Course Duration:
This is a one day course
About the course:
The course will be informal and participatory in nature. It will involve exercises and group work in pairs and small groups as well as in the whole group. Group members will be asked to take part in discussions around the issues raised by exercises. The course will draw upon the experiences of the participants and will involve practising anger management techniques through the use of role play.
