Aim:
To equip participants with a comprehensive set of assertiveness skills.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will:
- have identified their current behaviour patterns
- have identified their individual rights
- have developed a comprehensive range of assertiveness skills including making requests, saying No, giving constructive criticism, receiving criticism, giving and receiving compliments and assertive challenging
- have explored the complex feelings involved in becoming assertive
- have learned some strategies to manage these feelings
- have practised using the skills in a safe environment
Course Duration:
This is a 5 day course divided into three modules:
Module 1 – Two days
Module 2 – Two days
Module 3 – One day
We suggest a week between modules to enable participants to practise their skills.
About the course:
The course will be informal and participatory in nature. It will involve exercises and group work in pairs and small groups as well as in the whole group. The course will draw upon the experiences of the participants within the group. Group members will have the opportunity to practise the skills using real situations from their own lives.
