Aim:
To increase individuals’ confidence and skills in working with groups.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will:
- understand the benefits and potential pitfalls of group work
- know how to create a safe environment in order to allow a group to form effectively
- understand the importance of setting a group working agreement
- be able to establish a group working agreement
- understand the role of icebreakers
- be able to select appropriate group work exercises
- have identified the qualities of a good facilitator
- be equipped with strategies for handling a range of difficult situations which may arise in a group work setting
- have identified different roles people take within groups
- have experienced facilitating a short group work session
Course Duration:
This is a two day course.
About the Course:
The course will be informal and participatory in nature. It will involve exercises and group work in pairs and small groups, as well as in the whole group. Group members will be asked to take part in discussions around the issues raised by exercises. The course will draw upon the experiences of the participants. Participants will be expected to facilitate a short group work session.
